Heli-hike Equipment Information and Safety Terms and Conditions Declaration

Equipment Information

A full range of conditions and temperatures can be expected in the NZ mountains and guests for heli-hikes need to be suitably prepared with suitable clothing and eyewear.

Guests must have:

  • Suitable warm and windproof outdoor clothing 
  • Sunhat or cap
  • Warm hat 
  • Sunglasses
  • Lightweight gloves 
  • Stiff soled hiking boots (contact Wānaka Mountain Guides if you need to hire boots)

If required for the trip, technical equipment including helmits, gaiters, harnesses, crampons, snowshoes trekking poles and ice axes are provided by Wānaka Mountain Guides.

Safety Terms and Conditions

Wānaka Mountain Guides Ltd is a Worksafe registered provider of adventure activities and DOC concession holder.

In all mountain, skiing, climbing and trekking based activity there is an element of risk involved. Risks in undertaking this activity include (but not limited to):

  • Death or injury due to fall while climbing or skiing
  • Death or injury due to avalanche, rock or ice fall;
  • Death or injury due to crevasse fall;
  • Death or injury due to hypothermia.

The staff and management of Wānaka Mountain Guides take all practicable steps to identify and minimise potential dangers including the ever-present hazards outlined above. Wānaka Mountain Guides acknowledges our statutory obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015. However, it is acknowledged that there is inherent risk involved in the undertaking of the activities operated by Wānaka Mountain Guides.

WARNING: Under New Zealand law it is extremely unlikely that you will be able to sue anyone if you are injured. In addition, New Zealand’s accident compensation scheme provides only limited assistance to visitors to New Zealand who are injured. We strongly recommend that all visitors to New Zealand have full insurance covering any injury they might suffer, including medical treatment cover, before undertaking this activity.

EXCLUSIONS:

To the extent permitted by law, all our liability for damage to your property, disruption to travel plans, or mental injury is excluded. This exclusion is subject to any rights or remedies you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993. 

Please disclose to your guide any medical conditions or other information we need to know to include you safely in this activity (for example: asthma, allergies, heart conditions, epilepsy or pregnancy).
