If you are new to the area or only have a short time to sample the rock climbing on offer, a local guide can showcase the best routes of the region.

Alpine Rock Climbing Objectives

Our favourite rock routes include:

Ravages of Time, Chinamans Bluff

This 300m route is situated high above the scenic Dart Valley north of Glenorcy. It takes an hour to get from the carpark to the base of the route and has a crux pitch of 20.

DB’eh Buttress and Indian Summer

The Remarkables near Queenstown offer a variety of multi-pitch alpine routes in low to moderate grades. It is possible to continue the adventure by scrambling to the summit of Single or Double Cone for the view of the Whakatipu basin.

Taniwha, Hell’s Gate

For more challenging objectives and steep, the Mount Aspiring road leasd west from Wānaka to the junction of the East and West Matukituki Valleys and the imposing Hell’s Gate crag.
