Aspiring Glaciers Ski Tour

Glacier Ski and Splitboard Touring

Aspiring Glaciers Ski Tour

The Aspiring Glacier Ski Tour takes skiers and splitboarders to the remote glaciers and peaks of Mount Aspiring National Park and the remote Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area of South West New Zealand. Helicopter access to a high alpine hut for the full winter ski touring experience surrounded by magnificent big mountain terrain.
Aspiring Glaciers Ski Tour

The tour is based out of Colin Todd Hut in the Mount Aspiring National Park. Although popular in summer for mountaineers looking to climb Mount Aspiring itself, the region is seldom utilised during winter but offers a range of off-the-beaten-track ski touring and mountaineering objectives from gentle glaciers to steep ascents and descents.

The area is excellent for spring skiing or ski-accessed mountaineering objectives including Tititea / Mount Aspiring itself.

The helicopter staging area is just 20 minutes drive from Wanaka town centre so you will arrive promptly at Bevan Col at the head of the West Matukituki Valley and high on the main divide. Ski down onto the Bonar Glacier that drains out to the West Coast and over to Colin Todd hut, the base for a few days. From here it is possible to undertake a variety of day trip ski tours to explore the surrounding glaciers and peaks with views over deep bush-clad valleys.

Time can also be spent learning mountaineering and glacier travel skills to keep you safe on your own ski touring adventures.

POA

‘A great local company offering backcountry tours. Less people, fresh lines and opportunity to enhance your backcountry skills. Our guide, was exceptional. He picked a great route, great skiing in variable conditions, and included some snow science along the way. Highly recommended.’
