Overview

Wye Cree Ice Climbing, based at the upper crags and cirque of the South Branch of Wye Creek, provides one of New Zealand's most accessible and varied ice climbing venues. Satisfying the criteria of altitude, drainage, and cold aspect gives this area reliability for good ice formation during the coldest periods of winter. Develop your climbing skills on single and multi-pitch climbs for all levels of previous ice climbing experience.

Wye Creek Ice Climbing is a remote area and requires a couple of hours to walk or touring into. It is best accessed by a helicopter ride from Frankton.

For multi-day trips we utilise our comfortable expedition camp Camp sites are within 20mins of the crags providing easy daily access to the ice.

From $1390 / $750 per person per day for 1:1 / 1:2.

Inclusions & Exclusions

Includes: GST, guide fees, compliance costs, technical equipment, and transport from Wanaka.


Excludes: Accommodation in Frankton/Queenstown, helicopter flights into Wye Creek.

Booking Conditions

Helicopter access: $2400 return (prices are subject to change by the helicopter operator).


If the weather does not allow helicopter access into Wye Creek, it will be possible to undertake day trips to ice and mixed climbs in the Remarkables using the ski field road for access.
