Overview

Wye Cree Ice Climbing, based at the upper crags and cirque of the South Branch of Wye Creek, provides one of New Zealand's most accessible and varied ice climbing venues. Satisfying the criteria of altitude, drainage, and cold aspect gives this area reliability for good ice formation during the coldest periods of winter. Develop your climbing skills on single and multi-pitch climbs for all levels of previous ice climbing experience.

Wye Creek Ice Climbing is a remote area and requires a couple of hours to walk or touring into. It is best accessed by a helicopter ride from Frankton.

For multi-day trips we utilise our comfortable expedition camp Camp sites are within 20mins of the crags providing easy daily access to the ice.

Fitness

To maximise climbing opportunities, Climbers should have good fitness and experience hiking off track.

Technical Skills

Climbers should have some experience with rock climbing and ropework, including knots and belaying.
