Wānaka Mountain Guides - Film Locations and Safety

Film Locations and Safety

Wanaka Mountain Guides have an extensive knowledge of the New Zealand mountains and can provide advice on film locations, safety services, and wilderness logistical support for small or large film projects. We have experience with a range of projects. Get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Safety Management

Our Safety Management Plan covers all activities in the mountains, which is externally audited according to the New Zealand Adventure Activity Regulations. All our certified mountain guides are Outdoors First Aid qualified, and carry a first aid kit, emergency shelter, and emergency satellite communications devices to communicate with us and emergency services whilst out in the field.

Location Logistical Support

Wanaka Mountain Guides [] Helicopter

We can provide outdoor safety and other equipment for remote stays in the mountains and work with local aircraft operators to manage logistics in, out and around in the field.

This can also include catering for small or large crews.

Permitting

Permits are required for filming on Department of Conservation managed National Parks and Conservation Areas. There is a process here for obtaining a one-off film permit for a single area with additional charges. In our experience, they are processed within a few weeks

There is an additional process for applying for a permit for drone use.

Weather Considerations

You can reasonably expect all types of weather in the New Zealand mountains at any time of year. We monitor the weather in the run-up and during the shoot and refine the field plan according to requirements
