Cass Valley Ski and Splitboard Tours
The Cass and its tributaries, situated within Glenmore Station provide a classic and varied venue for ski and splitboard tours with impressive terrain and the convenience of private and comfortable huts.
Private Cass Valley Huts
Lady Emily Hut
Lady Emily Hut offers breathtaking views all year round and is a fantastic base for ski touring adventures. The hut provides access to excellent terrain including ‘The Scorpion’ circuit.
After a fun day of adventures, it is recommended to head to the Bad Decision Hut for a dram of whisky before heading back to Lady Emily. If this interests you, please check out how to order your whisky here.
Falcons Nest Hut
Situated at the head of the Tin Hut Creek, a tributary of the Cass, Falcon’s Nest offers plenty of great ski touring from the hut. The more popular runs include below the Bad Decision, the saddle into the Fork stream, and the head of the Tin Hut stream. For the more adventurous, ‘The Needles’ in the Fork Stream offers steep gulleys. The Bad Decision hut and its whisky is also nearby.
Itinerary
The huts have log burners, firewood, fully equipped kitchens, and gas cookers (including gas).
Meeting Wānaka, Mount Cook, or Tekapo, it is possible to drive up the Cass Valley in a 4WD to access the huts. Otherwise, it is possible to fly in from various locations. Once established at the hut, participants must only carry light day packs during day ski tours exploring the area.

‘Highly recommend WMG. Although we’re relatively experienced & capable, having the team organise our first ski tour trip into the Cass valley made it a much better experience right from logistics and safety to the food ! All very much on point and meant we could enjoy the surrounds, skiing & of course whiskey more being in great hands without making own calls on route etc but learning more along the way also.
— Merv, Cass Valley Ski Tour
‘A group of really approachable, knowledgeable and experienced guides. I undertook two different sessions with WMG and both the guides I had were great. I also met several others guides from other WMG groups who were clearly also excellent. Everyone just wanted you to be safe, have fun and learn as much as you wanted to. Organisation, planning and bad weather options were also spot on.’

’I learnt so much from [Our guide], who was an amazing guide and teacher. [She] created a supportive and safe learning environment and she was so keen to share her knowledge with us. Now I‘m so stoked to expand on my avy knowledge and develop my backcountry skills in the future. ’
