Siberia Valley Trek
The Siberia Valley Trek is a journey into the heart of Mount Aspiring National Park and is accessible for those new to trekking in New Zealand or young families. With helicopter access to the remote Siberia Valley, explore the valley, icebergs of Lake Crucible, and views of Mount Awful, before descending to the Wilkin Valley and an exciting jet boat ride out.
Itinerary
The meeting point for trips is our base in Albert Town, Wānaka. If you require accommodation the night before or after a trip, it is possible to book extra nights at our comfortable next door Kea Lodge.
Day 1
Meet your guide and travel from Wanaka to the village of Makaroa, 1 hour north towards the West Coast. Fly into the Siberia Valley and spend the afternoon exploring the valley or visiting Lake Crucible (14km return, 5-6 hours).
Day 2-3 (5km, 300m descent)
With an extra day, you can head up Gillespie Stream towards Gillespie Pass for spectacular views of Mount Awful.

‘A very professional guide and great company. He took time to explain to us what walks were possible/practical each day depending on the weather and the impact it would have on the surrounding rivers. If you are city dwellers it is very comforting to know that your guide is thinking of the safety of the group. [He] certainly kept us well fed as well. We are looking forward to future trips in the beautiful mountains around Wānaka which is a refreshing change and takes us out of our comfort zone for a few days at least.’
